Identify Plan & Schedule

Having a plan is the first thing you need to do. Planning helps you think through your exam preparation and sets up a roadmap to prepare well. As you plan, consider the following:

1. Identify Study Goals

It is important to have clear study goals. Your study goals will guide your study plan. Ensure that your goals are realistic. Don’t aim for goals that are too easy or too hard to achieve. It’s always good to challenge yourself.

2. Prepare a Schedule

Once you have your study goals, you are ready to plan your study schedule. Avoid cramming, and keep your study time within your schedule. Avoid last-minute studying on the night before the test. Use our planner, fill in your targets, print it out, and place it in front of you.

3. Put Your Study Place in Order

Your study space can be a room or a table where you can spread your reading materials and tools. Always keep it organized and clean. A tidy space can help set the mood for clear thinking. A cluttered space can become a distraction.

4. Be Positive

A positive attitude is crucial when taking exams. Always aim high, and never settle for just a passing grade. Staying positive will have a big impact on how effectively you study.

Studying Strategies

After planning and setting up your schedule, it’s time to strategize. The right study strategies will help you reach your goals.

1. Make a Reviewer

Create a reviewer to help you review the key points of your study. Use it to test your knowledge before the exam.

2. REPEAT, REPEAT AND REPEAT!

Always review your formative assessments during revision. These assessments reveal your strengths and weaknesses, guiding your study focus.

3. Assessment of Your Studies

Self-assess to identify your strong and weak areas. After revisions, take online assessments or create your own to test your knowledge.

4. Summarise Weekly

Take 1 hour off from your desk, go to a quiet place, and reflect on what you achieved last week and your plans for the upcoming week. Self-assessment is crucial for success.

Keeping Fit and Focused

Maintaining physical health is key when preparing for exams. Here’s how to stay healthy as you prepare:

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Hydrate throughout your exam prep, as dehydration can affect brain performance. Drink at least 8 glasses a day, and keep a bottle nearby.

2. Eat Brain Food

Eat foods like eggs, yoghurt, cheese, chocolate, nuts, bananas, and blueberries to keep your brain sharp. Healthy eating improves cognitive function.

3. Have Enough Sleep

Don’t sacrifice sleep while studying. Get around 8 hours of sleep to maintain focus and concentration.

4. Have Time for Breaks

Take breaks to re-energize. Breaks improve concentration and allow time for snacks, meals, and short chats. Break time is not wasted time.

5. Physical Workout

Take 20-30 minutes a day to exercise. It’s a good way to refresh your body during study breaks.

6. Meditate

Nourish your mind with meditation. Spend 20 minutes a day meditating to stay calm and focused.
